OpenAI announced on September 10, 2026 a new Data agent in ChatGPT Work that, according to the company, lets people query company data, investigate what changed, and build interactive dashboards without writing queries or learning a separate analytics tool. OpenAI says the agent connects to approved data sources including Amazon Redshift, Datadog, Google BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks, MongoDB, and Snowflake, and can pull files from Google Drive and SharePoint. It uses an organization's business terms, metric definitions, and data relationships drawn from semantic layers and sources such as Databricks Genie Ontology, dbt, GitHub, and Snowflake Horizon. According to OpenAI, enterprise administrators choose which data connections and roles are available, and queries enforce the connected account's existing table, row, and column permissions. The agent can also build and interact with dashboards in Omni, Oracle BI, Power BI, Sigma, Tableau, and ThoughtSpot, and can share findings via Slack or email. OpenAI states that nearly all of its product team and over two-thirds of its go-to-market organization use data agents internally, and that NTT Data, Thermo Fisher, ServicePiston, and other Alpha-program organizations are using the tool. The Data agent is listed as "Data" in the ChatGPT Work Plugins directory; administrators install and configure it through Workspace settings.
